About Us

24/03/2020

Dear friend,

A brief note to update you on the current status at The GLO Centre. We have been following the news and Government advice very closely. The following information is the best course we can adopt, given our current understanding. This is, of course, being kept under review and we will keep you in touch with any further updates.

Given the Scottish and UK Government announcements on Monday 23rd March, The GLO Bookshop will CLOSE to all customers until further notice. We are still taking orders via our website and by phone. However, we can NOT give a guarantee when these orders will be sent out and we would ask for your understanding with this. We will endeavour to keep you fully informed. Where possible, we will arrange to send your order direct to you from the supplier's warehouse.

Please call us on 01698 275343 during business hours for further information.

The GLO Coffee Shop is currently CLOSED to all customers. We do regret this and will try to re-open again as soon as possible.

All external events at The GLO Centre are cancelled for the next month and we will review this as time goes on.

GLO Mission Teams 2020 are being reviewing on an individual basis and we will keep applicants informed. The current status of each team will be posted on our website.

We would want to highlight that Tilsley College is still recruiting for students for the 2020 /21 intake in September.

These are strange and troubling times and we trust you find comfort & help in the close presence of God as we go into an uncertain future. If we can help you at all- even just by being available to talk to you- please don't hesitate to get in touch.

With my thanks for your continued interest in our work,

Andrew

As 'Scotland's Leading Independent Christian Resource Centre' we stock a wide range of products in our shop in Motherwell. In addition to our 'core' stock ranges, we run a series of special promotions for different times of the year, and for new product ranges.

Our staff are knowledgeable & friendly, and we will always do our best to answer any question you might have! This is an opportunity to say 'Thank you' as well to the volunteer staff, who give up their time to help maintain the excellent standard of customer service we strive to achieve.

There is a wide range of customers catered for, and you can see here the well stocked Study section, with a superb range of theological books, commentaries and resources. On our children's section there is a huge amount of fun to be had by kids of all ages with books, music, DVD, teachers resources, toys, gifts, puzzles, Sunday school lessons, puppets and much, much more!

Over the years we have a run a series of special events and author presentations, so rather than just tell you about them, we thought you would like to see some of the photos we have taken! Watch out- you might see yourself (or someone you know!) in these pictures!

From our 'History' pages, you will know we've been around for a few years! Our last big refit was in 2000, when the sales area was increased by 30% and many new ranges brought in. To mark this event, a special thanksgiving service was held with special guests Ian White & Jamie Stuart. We continue to be thankful to God for all He has done through the Bookshop, and the many friends we have made from all over the world!

Over the years, we have welcomed many authors to the Bookshop to take presentations. Adrian Plass is just one of the authors who have come- you will find more images & names below. True to his reputation, this was a highly enjoyable, laughter-filled session as Adrian read from a selection of his books. Depending on the author's schedule, we arrange these at various times- sometimes a lunchtime session such as we had with Adrian, to afternoon sessions like the one we shared with Sally Magnusson, promoting her recent book 'Glorious Things', to evenings like our recent event with Ian Shaw discussing the important issues raises in his book 'The Divine Substitute'.

The usual format is an introduction and then an opportunity for the author to share something about the book and the reasons they wrote it. Often there are questions to ask and always there is a supper, or tea & coffee, or (as when we hosted the local launch of the Holman Christian Standard Bible!) a cream tea with scones & strawberries. That was definitely the best!

Some of these books reflect deep personal trauma, and the presentations are sobering. They make you truly grateful for the blessings God has given us, and thankful for the grace God has given to those who have experienced deep trouble. Yet they have been given strength to rise above their hurt, and to share their sense of healing and new purpose with others. The visit of Heather Gemmen and Gail Chamberlain were two such events. Their stories were inspiring and challenging but I won't tell you about them here you can find out more about their books on our website!

We also have the privilege of taking Bookstalls out for the day! At a recent event at Jordanhill College, not only did we have an excellent bookstall, but this was combined with a book launch for Darrell Cosden's book 'the Heavenly Good of Earthly Work'. And we meet some interesting people- Mark Greene ('Thank God it's Monday') just happened to be the keynote speaker, so called in to add his congratulations to Darrell. If you are doing a special event, and would like a Bookstall to be provided, please contact us & we can discuss the various possibilities.

Outreach & evangelism are themes that lie very close to our heart as an organization, so it was a real privilege to be able to welcome Rico Tice to the Bookshop. Rico is author of the popular 'Christianity Explored' course, and shared something of the motivation and method of this course that has been widely used to bring others to Christ. We carry a wide range of resources and literature that can be used in the exciting work of sharing the Good News, and would encourage you to call in or contact us to discuss how we can partner in bringing the message of salvation to a needy world.

Well we're really just name-dropping now but no photo gallery would be complete without this photo of Jim McKay, one of our hard-working volunteers, meeting Jim Cymbala at the Brooklyn Tabernacle with Anne, Jim's wife. If you can't get them to come to Motherwell, we just have to go and get them! Andrew & Helen are pictured meeting Karen Kingsbury at the Christian Booksellers Convention. Karen is one of our most popular authors, writing high quality fiction from a Christian standpoint.

We couldn't resist including Bob & Larry, visiting the GLO Centre in November 2006. Children are always a priority in the GLO Bookshop, and the kids have got their own separate section where the kids can browse and the mums & dads can get some peace to look around! That said, the day that Bob & Larry arrived, you could hardly get into the kids section for the Big Kids wanting to be photographed with the cuddly vegetables. You're as young as you feel!
