As reviewed by Dr. Stephen McQuoid in February 2020- 'This is not a new book, it was published in 2004, but it remains highly relevant and as Habermas in particular is such an authority on the Resurrection of Jesus it is well worth reading. Typical of the authors they amass significant amounts of evidence which is clearly explained with the assistance of diagrams to further emphasize the force of their case. They are methodical in their presentation and argue in a compelling way.

They start by explaining the ‘minimal facts’ which prove the resurrection. This includes such evidences as the empty tomb, the disciple’s belief in the resurrection and the remarkable conversions of Paul and James. Next they look at some of the theories which proport to disprove the resurrection of Jesus and demonstrate their flaws. This is followed by an evaluation of claims that the resurrection should be doubted on psychological grounds, for example the resurrection appearances being hallucinations. They also look at some claims made on the basis of naturalism that the idea of resurrection is implausible. These are mostly assumptions based on the philosophy of science and each one is briefly rebutted.

The book comes to a conclusion by drawing the evidence together and showing how inescapable the evidence for the resurrection is. This is a good book written by two noted scholars which offers compelling historical evidence for the resurrection. It makes a good resource for any evangelist or pastor or indeed any Christian wanting to grasp the strength of the case for the resurrection of Christ.'
