Innumerable books have been written about successful outreach and evangelism, yet almost none address the centrality of the family as God’s intended vehicle for experiencing life, community, and growth.

In this timely and powerful book, Johannes Reimer urges us to rediscover the family as a primary agent for mission in the world. Offering both a theological and practical foundation for understanding the role and significance of families in the vocation of the church, this book also provides creative ideas for implementing a family-centered praxis that offers preparation and support to families living out their calling to make Christ known.

To ignore the family, Reimer warns, is to ignore the church’s greatest resource for transmitting truth, communicating love, and embodying the gospel. If we are to be effective in making disciples of all nations, we must start in our own homes.

As reviewed by Dr. Stephen McQuoid in January 2021- 'This book is an extremely practical guide to the importance of family in mission. It covers many angles including the biblical basis both for mission and for the issue and importance of family as well as the practical challenges of living out the gospel in the context of family. Reimer argues that one of the greatest things that missionaries can model to the people they are witnessing to is Christian family values and the centrality of a stable family life. He is realistic about the challenges Christians families face, especially when they are working cross culturally, but he is convinced that a whole family can be used by God to integrate into a community, build relationships and also offer to warmth of family life to others.

If there is one criticism I would have of this book it would be that the author is rather verbose and he could say the same thing using fewer words. However, it is well researched, accessible, practical and full of good ideas. Reimer is clearly an enthusiastic evangelist and he wants the church to recognise that in outreach we make ourselves including our family life available and vulnerable. This book should not just be read by missionaries but by any Christin who has a family and wants to utilise their family life as a way of blessing others and sharing the reality of the gospel.'
