The Moody and Sankey meetings of the 1870's inspired a great wave of evangelistic activity in many parts of Britain and the English Concertina came into extensive use in Mission Hall work and in the Salvation Army.
Because of its portability it was widely used in open air work and in seaside summer missions.
Due to the advent of modern electronics, the use of the Concertina as an instrument of sacred music is now a dying tradition.
In this album, two surviving players of that era, Peter Donald and Gordon Haxton, bring a selection of some of the great hymns from Redemption Songs and Sankey's Hymnal which were so much loved by those who lived through those days of the 20th century.
