This book is a truly formidable commentary on certain Psalms which have impressed themselves upon the former Cabinet Minister Jonathan Aitken. He read them during a prison sentence and then studied them in depth on his release while at the University of Oxford. Commencing with Psalm 130, his favourite, he takes the reader through his chosen Psalms under the headings of 'Reflection', 'Personal comment', and a 'Prayer'. Aitken reveals a great deal of his personal journey from nominal faith (when in Parliament he was Church Warden of St Margaret's Westminster) to a very definite commitment to Christianity. It is likely that this reasonably priced volume which has been published as a Lent Book will be of value not only to believers but to a wider reading public. Aitken suggests that the Psalms should be read one at a time, possibly on a daily basis. As a bedside book it is envisaged that 'Psalms for People under Pressure' is likely to be a great success and is strongly recommended. It is honest, eloquent and inspired.
