A pupil in an RE lesson asks of the story of Christianity: 'Miss, how do we know if it's true?'

The teacher's reply really matters: should she say, 'It has been proved by scholars' or 'We don't know it's true' or 'It doesn't matter' or 'Maybe it is true for you'? It's not simple.

There is a saying of Jesus in John's Gospel: 'You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free' (John 8:32, NIV). For those who are interested in Christian education, it might be a key text.
