If the prologue provides a panoramic view of the creation of the entire cosmos, the first 'half' of Genesis opens with the story of the Garden of Eden.

The first 11 chapters of Genesis are key to understanding the world today, touching on subjects such as goodness, freedom, oppression and violence. They are also of great importance for understanding the Bible as a whole. They set the stage on which the subsequent drama of redemption takes place.
