The ERV (Easy-to-Read version of the Bible) has been developed over a period of 30 years from its origins as the English Version for the Deaf (which also gave rise to the NCV and ICB translations). The ERV was developed to reach out to others who face similar difficulties in reading to the deaf, such as those for whom English is not their first language.
