This book comes from two authors with scientific backgrounds. It recognises the huge advances made through science and their beneficial impact on society. However, it also expresses concern that the essentially tentative nature of scientific conclusions is being replaced by a growing tendency to accord to science the last word on a range of subjects.

While the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic of 2020 has shown some of the uncertainties associated with scientific research, this book demonstrates that these become more apparent in such fundamental areas as the origin of both life and the universe, as well as the abiding mystery of mind and consciousness. The authors argue persuasively that we should recognise the limitations of science as well as its unquestionable strength.

David Galloway MD DSc was a Consultant Surgeon and is currently Honorary Professor of Surgery at the University of Glasgow, Scotland. He was, until recently, the President of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in Glasgow.

Alastair Noble PhD spent most of his career in science education and educational management and was latterly the Field Officer for School Leaders Scotland

'Follow the Science?' is a marvellous little book that concisely explains the strengths and limits of science – as well as the strengths and limits of scientists. It will do much good for high school and university students struggling with extravagant claims about what science knows and how it knows it.
Michael J Behe, Professor of Biochemistry, Lehigh University, Pennsylvania, USA. Author of Darwin’s Black Box, The Edge of Evolution, and Darwin Devolves.

"The Government regulations during this pandemic were said to 'Follow the Science' and this slogan has been used in this new title from two Scientists – David Galloway and Alistair Noble.

The main theme of the book is to show that science and scientific data are usually interpreted in the context of a person’s own belief or 'world view'- and the same science can lead to quite different conclusions, depending on a materialist or a supernatural view of the world.

Our two authors are by no means alone in the scientific community who can clearly show how much evidence there is to substantiate a supernatural or theistic viewpoint. It is a step of faith and logic to identify our Almighty God as the creator of everything. This is where “following the science” leads to many people today in many parts of the world. It will be a helpful book to those who are interested in the defence of biblical creation.

It’s a thorough and detailed resource, with a long list of good references. It is very suited to science students, or readers with a scientific background.

The books begins by describing the nature of science, and emphasises the key fact that science has its limits. It can no more assess the laws of logic than it can address questions of morality or beauty. The chapters that follow deal more fully with the question of origins of everything, but especially of life. The weaknesses of the evolution theory are described, including what the fossil record really indicates. There is a fascinating section on the complexity of the mind and consciousness and morality. After a description of the ‘glaring gaps’ in popular domain, we read that “the evolutionary explanation for complex living things is much more a matter of philosophy than of scientific observation.

The book gives the testimony of Sir James Young Simpson, the pioneer of anaesthetics: when asked what was his greatest discovery, he said 'That I am a sinner, and Jesus Christ is a great Saviour!'
