This book was recommended by Gordon Ross as part of the ‘50 Years- 50 People- 50 Books!’ series. Here is Gordon's full message and recommendation:

When were you involved in GLO and in what role?

‘Although I can’t be sure about exact dates, I worked in the GLO Bookshop on a Saturday for a number of years in the late 90s. When I started working in the bookshop, I was in my mid-teens and had only been a believer for a couple of years.’

Can you share a significant memory of that time?

‘Working alongside people that had a real love for the Lord and a hunger for God’s Word had a huge influence on me, as it really stimulated my own desire to study the Bible. Being around people that were able to point me in the direction of great authors, study books and other resources played a hugely significant role in helping me to grow in my faith and my own love for Christ.’

Why have you recommended 'Living by the Book'?

‘As a young Christian, I wanted to learn and to grow in my faith and had a real desire to study the Bible for myself. One book that was useful in helping me do that was “Living by the Book” by Howard G Hendricks. This book taught me principles and techniques that I continue to use today. The book is so helpfully structured that it is clear to follow and gives wonderful practical help in how to open God’s Word for us, rather than relying on commentaries, as wonderful as they are. There is nothing quite like having God open His Word to us, as we diligently study it for ourselves and discover the life-changing truths it contains.’

With great thanks to Gordon for this recommendation for the ‘50 Years- 50 People- 50 Books!’ series
