The Nation’s Gospel is a unique four-volume work, which takes the reader on a journey to explore how the Christian faith has been spread in Britain since the Reformation.

This is living history, telling the stories of the Christian faith of past generations and its outworking in society, which has much to teach us today.

Volume 1, Reformation to Revolution (1516-1791), traces the stories of faith from the beginning of the Reformation, through the persecution under Queen Mary, the Elizabethan period, the rise of Puritanism and the Civil War to the Wesleyan revival.

As reviewed by Dr. Stephen McQuoid in July 2019- 'This is volume 1 in what will be a four-volume work charting the spread of the Christian faith in Britain since the Reformation. Thomas is not a professional historian but rather works for an International Law firm. However, I see this as a positive because he focuses his analytical mind on a subject he loves, and writes in an orderly and enthusiastic way.

This first volume takes us from the Reformation, through the persecutions of Queen Mary, the Elizabethan period, the rise of the Puritans, the Civil War and the Wesleyan revival. Reading it takes a bit of concentration because it does not flow particularly smoothly. Indeed, it is written much as a lawyer would present his case in court, methodically, in stages, logically ordered and using factual rather than flowery language. However, it is clear, detailed and given the way Thomas presents his material, it is easy to find a particular point of issue within the text making it a good reference work. Church history is not for everyone, though it is a very important subject. If this first volume is anything to go by this will be a major contribution to our understanding of the last 400 years of our nation’s spiritual journey.'
