Over a long period of ministry Clifford Hill has written numerous books. This latest book is among the most important, if not the most important.

This is a living record of contemporary history that reveals previously unknown details of significant events in the life of the nation over the past 60 years. Clifford Hill explains how the Church has been affected by culture, and charts the course of societal and spiritual change which has transformed the nation since the 1960s. The Reshaping of Britain is a wake-up call that will bring inspiration and challenge to leaders in both Church and State, which could lead to the building of a nation under God that would be a blessing to its people and for the world.

Review from the GLO General Director, Stephen McQuoid:

The Reshaping of Britain by Clifford Hill, a sociologist and theologian who was the founder of Prophetic Word Ministries and its magazine, Prophecy Today. This book is essentially Hill’s reflections of life in the UK since the 1960s from his personal perspective. While highly autobiographical in nature, his knowledge of history, politics and church life mean that the book could also be read as a socio-spiritual commentary on the period. It is as fascinating as it is gripping.

He begins with reflecting on his early ministry involvements in the east end of London and some of the lessons he learned there. He then talks about some of the national evangelism initiatives that were launched in different decades and their varied effectiveness against a backdrop of overall church decline. Chapter 6 is key to his telling of history, as he charts four movements of social change which took the form of Cultural, Spiritual, Political and Sexual revolution, each of which did damage to the nation’s spiritual life. He also skilfully takes the reader through commentary on the Charismatic and Pentecostal movements in the UK, critiquing both strengths and weaknesses, as well as talking about the damaging impact of liberalism. One of the reasons why Hill has been such a significant influence nationally has been the relationships he has had with key figures, and he dedicates space to describe his dealings with archbishops like Coggan, Runcie, Carey, Rowan Williams and the current archbishop Justin Welby. His insights into their lives is very interesting, as were his relationships with political figures such as Boris Johnson and Tony Blair. This book is very wide in scope, but if you want to understand what has happened morally, socially and spiritually to Britain since the 1960s, this book provides a brilliant insight.
