We need a bigger vision for the city. It's not enough to plant individual churches in isolation from each other. The spiritual need and opportunity of our cities is too big for any one church to meet alone. Pastors Neil Powell and John James contend that to truly transform a city, the gospel compels us to create localized, collaborative church planting movements. They share lessons learned and principles discovered from their experiences leading a successful citywide movement. The more willing we are to collaborate across denominations and networks, the more effectively we will reach our communities--whatever their size--for Jesus. Come discover what God can do in our cities when we work together.

As reviewed by Dr. Stephen McQuoid in February 2020- 'This is a book about church planting, but it is not so much a ‘how to’ book, rather it looks at the issue of collaborative church planting where lots of different people and plants work together to reach their city for Christ. The authors remind us (p.131) that church planting is a very efficient way of evangelism and they encourage the reader to invest in church planting.

This book is born out of practical experience. The two authors are part of the Birmingham 2020 project which is a collaboration of some 19 church plants that have come into being since 2010. The book is divided into three sections. Firstly, there is the ‘why and what’ of church planting. It focusses on the beginnings and the shaping of church planting movements. Then the second section covers the how of collaborative church planting. Principles here are illustrated with real life examples from the Birmingham 2020 project. Finally, there is the third section which covers the ‘who’ of church planting. What this book lacks in critical analysis it makes up for in practical insights, being written by practitioners not academics. It is a worthwhile read and an inspiring insight into an exciting collaborative church planting movement in one of Britain’s most important cities.'
