Some days of the year are special. Not just Christmas and Easter, but other occasions, Christian or otherwise, capture the imagination and call for a response. We feel at such times that our prayers should reflect their significance, but we’re not always able to articulate our thoughts as we would wish or to relate the occasion in question to daily life. This book offers a hundred simple prayers rooted in everyday experience, the commonplace offering a springboard to personal devotion. Included are prayers for Advent and Christmas, the Old and New Year, Epiphany, Mother’s Day, Lent, Holy Week, Easter, Ascension Day, Pentecost, Trinity Sunday, Father’s Day, Harvest Thanksgiving, All Saints’ Day and Remembrance Day. Through items as mundane as turkey leftovers, a discarded diary, a fruit bowl or saucepan of milk, prayer is brought down to earth, the ordinary time and again suggesting ways in which those special days of the year are touched by God’s hand.
