JONI EARECKSON plunged beneath the murky water with very little thought. Diving off a rock was like getting on a horse for the pretty young teenager - and Joni had been born in the saddle. Standing on the edge you eased slowly up onto your tiptoes - then you jumped - forcing your body up and out before, gracefully, disappearing beneath the cool, dark, surface. But as Joni plunged into the water something happened to change all that. A tragic accident meant that Joni was paralysed from the neck down.
