Many would agree that the greatest challenge facing ordinary churches and ordinary Christians in western society today is how to spread the gospel and how to ensure that on a daily basis people are professing Christ for the first time. This book addresses that challenge head-on.
It does so, first, by looking closely at the context in which we evangelise and the varying world-views of those we are trying to reach; and, second, it suggests how individual Christians can involve themselves in the lives and thinking of un-churched people, so as to win them to Christ.
It is full of practical suggestions on how to make the most of opportunities and how to develop strategies for evangelism in and through the local church. It also looks at the difficult questions that emerge in discussion with non-Christians, whether seekers or not, and how they can be answered.

Review by Roger Chilvers June 2020
.......we are unintentionally drifting into becoming a society for the likeminded.
In this context Stephen McQuoid’s book ‘Learning to Share the Good News’ is so relevant. In his clear, analytical but easy to read way he forces us both as individuals and churches to confront the twin questions, ‘Am I in touch at all with the world of the 21st Century?’ and ‘How can I communicate the Good News today? The breadth of Stephen’s wide reading and research, something that he is so good at, makes the book very valuable not merely because of the subject but the way he organises the results of his research and presents it with clarity and with relevant questions to think about or discuss.
Taken seriously, this book can hardly fail to strengthen the task we have been given to, ‘preach the word; [and] be ready in season and out of season … [and to] do the work of an evangelist’.
We should take the relevance of the gospel very seriously. Of course, it is relevant, and we should make sure that we present it as such. ‘Learning to Share the Good News’ will help us to do that. If we don’t the words of social commentator Eric Hoffer will sadly be seen to come true, “In a time of drastic change, it is the learners who inherit the future. The learned usually find themselves well equipped to live in a world that no longer exists.”
